Seriously, just need to say, I have been DREADING this post cause its been over a month! I guess I don't need to go into detail...but for my mind to spark some memory I'm gonna jot down some highlights from our summer end!
August...oh where are you? Was August like the fastest month for anyone else? We went to Lagoon for a family reunion, and wow...I had a weak stomach. The one of my HS friends got married and I was busy doing her bridal shower and then her wedding turned out BEAUTIFUL! Did I grab pics? Of course not. That would mean I'd have to remember something...but just trust me! Nicole looked like the perfect bride with a beautiful outdoor wedding and reception!
Then it was on to planning my very best friends baby shower. I am so glad she and her family are so laid back because a baby shower is A LOT of work! And I'd like to deem it a success because we had a good little crowd, and she got some super cute things!
THEN it was our California trip! I don't know how I've never been there...but seriously, I have been missing out! We headed down and stayed a night in Elko. We missed the EISF but we did got to Elko county fair. About 1/8 the size of our fair, and we didn't eat anything...but we we were still thoroughly entertained by the mullets, belt buckles, thug-wanna-be's, and the live band that was hiding in a corner. The next morning we headed on down to Sacramento to stay with my friend, Kat. She had a day planned out for us, and we saw old town Sacramento. We came at a good time because they brought dirt in to have dirt roads and the train museum was free! Ryk LOVED being around them and did not want to leave. We stopped at an old candy store and Trev was seriously like a kid again!
The next day we headed to Santa Cruz area to go to the Mystery Spot. Then to the beach...which wasn't at all what I thought it would be. BUT none the less, amazing! It was super windy and cold and people probably thought we were idiots because we came busting out of our car in swimsuits with beach towels in hand. UH...yeah we looked like tourists! We should've taken note of everyone in sweatshirts and blankets...but oh well. There were only a couple of surfers who were INSANE cause the water was ice water! We snapped some pics and then left. It did clear up our day to go explore the city though...so no tan for moi but oh well.
We had some of THE best ice cream ever. And growing up in Idaho Falls, its hard to say you've tasted something better than Reed's Dairy Ice Cream...but this place had them beat. I had this caramel, toasted pecan ice cream, sandwiched in a croissant roll, layered with chocolate, nuts and whip cream. Pretty sure it was more than my daily caloric intake...but SOOO worth it. Still fantasizing about the day I go back. YUM!
The next day we played in the Redwoods and Ryk was in HEAVEN. He loved being out of the car for one thing, but he was surrounded by dirt and rocks and all his boyish things. We went on the easiest walk that was fenced off so he could self tour...which was a fabulous recommendation by the park ranger!
We then headed to San Francisco and I FELL in LOVE! Freezing cold...but what a beautiful place! I loved the culture. There was SO much diversity and I just felt so much gratitude for being raised to respect all peoples! It was SO fun. There was a silver dancer man, prob in his 40's...he was so fun to watch. I made Trev give me some $$ to put in his can cause ya know...gotta support the dancers! I just wanted to bust up there and dance with him, but well...I didn't. Some day...some day. We also went to some fun exhibits and aquariums, which I am sure if Ryker could remember anything, it would be that! He had a blast. We got our family drawn by a local artist...drove down Lombard Street and just really enjoyed being out of Rexburg!
We had some of the MOST amazing sandwiches EVERRR! Has anyone been to Ike's Place!?! OH.MY.DELISH!!! Like the Ice Cream, I think every bite was better than the last! YUM! Trev and I still talk about flying into San Fran JUST to get a sandwich! Trev even wants to have them UPS us some up here...its just that good. sigh...
Then back to Sacramento to see my Kat get married to her love. It was a beautiful ceremony and sealing and somedays I wish I could marry Trev all over again just to decorate and throw a fun party! I love weddings and receptions and I love remembering our special day that seems like so long ago!
Then we drove back ALL DAY Sunday. It was a bittersweet time to pull in, cause I LOVE our apartment, but that was when our vacation ended and real life was back. Trev started school the next day, Calculus II at 7:45am. Yuck. Now we are two weeks into the semester and enjoying the yummy crisp fall air, and bundling up in blankets, and hopefully will have some fun Fall/Halloween crafts to do!
I do have LOTS and LOTS of pics, but they are on Trev's comp so tune in later to see them.
